A Workday That Clearly Had Other Plans...

It began like any other day at work. Meetings, conversations, the usual rhythm.Then I stepped out of a meeting room… and into a moment that would quietly change everything.A gentleman approached, looking for my help. Simple enough. But within minutes, we realized we shared something deeper, a sense of home. He was of Rwandese descent, having lived in South Africa, and I’m from Zimbabwe. Just like that, the conversation felt less like business and more like familiarity.Weeks went by. He wasn’t quite ready to move forward without his wife, so I invited him to bring her in.That invitation came with more meaning than I could have imagined.Because the couple I was meeting would later become Mamilla’s brother-in-law and sister.From the start, our interactions had a little too much life in them. So much so that my manager had to step in a few times to gently remind us that… yes, we were technically still at work.Then came the next visit. This time, they brought along their two daughters, both full of energy and charm. One of them decided I was her person for the day, sticking by my side, chatting, and following me around like we’d known each other forever. My coworkers were thoroughly entertained, and slightly suspicious, wondering if there was something I hadn’t shared about my life as a “childless man.”But the story wasn’t done yet.On pickup day, they arrived again. Same family… but this time, with one more guest.She walked in with her arms folded, reading the room before committing to it, clearly debating whether she wanted to be there at all. And yet, there was something about her presence that stood out immediately.As the excitement of the evening built and the keys were ready to be handed over, something shifted. She relaxed, the conversation opened up, and what started as a simple exchange turned into something unexpectedly easy… and real.By the end of the night, I knew one thing for sure, I wasn’t leaving without finding a way to stay connected.So we exchanged contacts.And from there, everything grew.Conversation turned into connection. Connection turned into something steady, something meaningful. I came to know her as God-fearing, driven, and effortlessly lighthearted, someone who could bring both depth and joy into the same moment.Together, we’ve experienced the highs that make you laugh endlessly and the moments that test you, distance, grief, and everything in between. But through it all, one thing became clear.What we have only gets stronger.In May 2026, I made a decision that felt both powerful and simple.I chose Mamilla.And now, we invite you to be part of the next chapter as we celebrate a love story that, quite honestly, started on a “regular” workday.
